The Areopagus Institute of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (ITFPS) is officially accredited by the Romanian College of Psychologists and the Romanian Federation of Psychotherapy to offer training courses in systemic family psychotherapy. The institute is affiliated to the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA) and its trainers are also members of the European Association of Family Therapy (EFTA) and the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The successful completion of this course allows applicants to obtain the licence of free practice in psychotherapy offered by the Romanian College of Psychologists

The course consists of twelve modules (aprox. two years), six modules per year of 20 hours of direct training per each module.

We welcome applications from psychologists, medical doctors, social workers or final year students in the mentioned or related fields.

The course is designed to help students and practitioners to develop clinical abilities in family and couple psychotherapy by learning to evaluate the family dynamic and build suitable interventions in working with families facing developmental challenges, trauma, depression, anxiety, divorce, loss, substance abuse, violence, etc.

Course objectives

To develop:

A systemic framework for understanding family development and interactions

An understanding of the main theories and models of change in family therapy

Abilities to evaluate family dynamic, structure and patterns of interaction

Skills to diagnose dysfunctional pattern in the family and the couple relationships

Clinical skills with regard to the application of suitable methods and interventions in working with individuals, couples and families

Course methodology and requirements:

Interactive presentations of the theory and practice of family and couple therapy

Case presentations and role play

Pair and smaller group work

Video materials and reflective team discussions

Observations behind one way mirror

Intervision / supervision

Personal development and self awareness sessions

Peer group sessions

Supervised clinical practice with individuals, families and couples

Clinical portfolios, seminar reading, assignments and written exam
